They are not even allowed to fly yet, but they have already released their new uniforms. Greater Bay Airlines, Hong Kong’s newest airline, is clearly excited. You can admire the new uniforms on their website. But are they a hit? Opinions are divided.

Greater Bay Airlines launches new uniform

The new set of uniforms comprises three versions: a dress, a pencil skirt with a blouse, and the latter combined with a jacket. The outfits are mainly turquoise and worn with a colored scarf. But the turquoise color is not going down well with a lot of people and being compared to those of nurses in a hospital. The color is also very reminiscent of delivery service Deliveroo.

Not such an unusual color

Of course, there’s no accounting for taste. And when you launch a new uniform, there will always be people who appreciate it and those who don’t. The color is not even unusual in this industry. Irish airline Aer Lingus has been using turquoise and other shades of green in their uniforms for years.

Previously, the flight attendants were dressed head to toe in this color, but nowadays, they go for a slightly more modest look. In 2021, they combine turquoise with dark blue and black, which gives the whole outfit a more chic appearance.

I’m not a fan of this color in aviation uniforms. I like it as an accent, but I prefer warm tones combined with black or dark blue. But hey, at least they dare to stand out. And there is something to be said for that.
