I love buns, always have. It is an elegant way to tie up your hair and is always appropriate. The most masculine of outfits can look instantly feminine with a classic bun. For this article, I went in search of the best buns to wear for work.

The best buns to wear for work

Borgen Bun

The bun shown in the tutorial below reminds me of the Danish TV series ‘Borgen’. In the show, Sidse Babett Knudsen plays Denmark’s first female president, Birgitte Byborg. On formal occasions you often see her hair tied up in this style of bun and since watching this I have fallen in love with this hairstyle. Hence the reason I have named it the ‘BorgenBun’. Unfortunately, my hair is too short and has too much wavy to wear it this way. But if your hair is a little longer and is straight it will definitely look very chic.

Classic Donut

If you are also a fan of buns you will, of course, be familiar with the classic donut. If not, got out and buy one now! A donut is one of the easiest ways to create the perfect bun. A donut can be used on every hair length and thickness. It is simple to use and as demonstrated in the video below a messy bun can look very attractive. I usually wear mine tight by tying an elastic band over it but of course, that is not necessary.

Buns for short hair

Nice, the variety of buns for long hair. But what about the ladies with short hair? Well, to be honest, this is a bit tougher but certainly not impossible. In the video below you can see how simple it is to create a chic bun with short hair. Not as thick and full as the styles in the other videos but it still looks great and worth the effort.

Messy Bun

Finally, I want to share this video with you. It has now been viewed more than 10 million times. At six minutes long, this tutorial is longer than most videos but it is incredible and suitable for almost every hair type. Ladies with layers, straight hair, waves or curls can all wear this bun. It is also the perfect hairstyle for those days when you haven’t the time or energy to wash your hair.

The woman demonstrates perfectly how you can create this updo by fixing the curled strands of hair in place.  And this is the exact method I use for almost all my hairstyles. I often style my hair by curling sections and fixing them in place with pins. This creates extra volume and you do not have to backcomb your hair.

Greetings,

 Aileen
