Taiwanese Reef Chang saw his grandfather and grandmother’s business deteriorate more and more. The elderly couple who run a laundry had little work and were bored. And so Chang thought it was time to spice things up a bit, with all its consequences …

Creative photoshoot

Over the years, his grandmother Chang Wan-ji (83) and grandfather Hsu Sho-er (84) had amassed lots of clothes. Some customers brought their clothes to the laundry and never came back to collect them. The couple had a hard time throwing the clothes away. They donated a lot but still had about four hundred items of clothing that customers had neglected to pick up.

And this inspired Reef Chang to convince his grandparents to have some fun. He had his grandparents swap their work clothes for the old, abandoned garments and took photos of them. He created a photoshoot in the small laundry with different styles: from beachwear to corporate clothing and smart suits, complete with accessories such as glasses, hats, bags, and belts. And the result is nothing short of impressive.

Older couple goes viral through photoshoot in abandoned (work) clothes

The couple had a lot of fun during the photoshoots. They enjoyed wearing different clothes and felt a lot younger as a result.

Chang decided to share the photos on Instagram, and it turned out to be a good move. He received positive messages from all over the world. The media quickly picked up on this fun story, and the photos appeared in various newspapers and magazines. The Instagram account now has more than half a million followers.

A beautiful message

The photos have resulted in the grandparents being busier. Local fans visit the Taiwanese laundry, and some forgetful customers have finally picked up their clothes.

Grandson Chang also hopes the photos will convey a message. “Rather than follow fast fashion and keep buying new clothes, we hope people can see that old and second-hand clothes can be fashionable when you combine them in novel ways. Doing this would cause less damage to the earth and the environment. ”

I think it’s great that Chang is taking this opportunity to spread an important message. Because no matter how funny the photos are, it is a bit worrying that so many people are so blasé when it comes to clothes. So blasé, they even forget to pick them up.

greetings,

Aileen
