Emirates flight attendants can now choose from 15 different shoe styles. This follows the footwear trend that has been ongoing in the aviation sector for some time. The days when female flight attendants were required to wear high heels are now over. In this article, I’ll tell you all about the new shoes, the matching handbag, and the requirements the staff must meet.
Flight attendants transitioned from red to brown
When Emirates was founded in 1985, they immediately chose red shoes. After some time, they switched to brown, and eventually returned to red. In recent years, the female flight attendants at the Dubai-based airline received two pairs of leather, red shoes. One model was flat, and the other was a pump with either a mid-height or high heel. The male attendants received new dark brown leather shoes every nine months.
Emirates flight attendants now have more shoe options
From now on, the female attendants can choose from fifteen different leather shoes. While all the options are pumps, there are variations in heel heights, styles, and fits. This ensures that every woman can find a well-fitting model.
The shoes are made in Spain and match the uniform’s color better. This red is slightly brighter than the old shoes and matches the skirt pleat and jacket trim. The women also receive a new handbag in the same red color.
The press release does not mention the new men’s shoes. However, judging by the photos, it seems they can now choose from two pairs of brown shoes.
Strict standards for flight attendants
Emirates cabin crew is known for their polished appearance. This is no surprise, given the company’s strict dress code. All female attendants must wear red lipstick, natural-looking eye makeup, and maintain flawless skin. They also receive a red scrunchie to wear their hair in a bun.
The airline even has an internal team dedicated to maintaining this uniform look. The flight staff can schedule appointments to receive advice from team members on makeup, nutrition, fitness, skincare, and hair care. Additionally, they organize masterclasses and group events on these topics.
In 2023, Emirates partnered with Dior Beauty. They opened an ‘Emirates Beauty Hub’ for the cabin crew, which now consists of 18,000 members. Seven days a week, Emirates staff are available in this space to offer advice.
All advisors were trained by Dior, and the staff was recommended to use Dior’s makeup and skincare products. Naturally, a special nail polish and lipstick in the iconic red color were selected. Clearly, they leave nothing to chance.
