Men in skirts often get ridiculed. Yet there are men who, despite knowing the reactions they will get, still dress like this for work. Sometimes to make a statement because they disagree with women being allowed to wear skirts, and men not being permitted to wear shorts. But sometimes men wear a skirt just because they like it.
Engineer in heels
Most of us think of men who wear heels and skirts as “feminine” types because this is how the media portrays them. But Mark Bryan (61) smashes this stereotype. This man turns up to the office every day in heels and a skirt. He is straight, married, father of two children, and works as a robotics engineer.
About four years ago Mark started wearing skirts in his spare time, just because he liked it. A year later he decided to wear skirts to work. Although there were plenty of jokes, his colleagues quickly got used to it. In time, he added a pair of heels. And now his standard outfit for work is a pencil skirt, heels, and a shirt. The shirt is a traditional men’s shirt, as Mark likes to combine men and women’s clothing.
Exceptions in the office
When I asked him how customers react to his clothing style, he says that most of them aren’t bothered about what he wears. For the few that are, Mark keeps a pair of trousers at work and doesn’t have a problem changing if needs be. He dresses in a skirt and heels most of the time, but he also likes to alternate. He must adhere to the dress code for women at work. For example, the skirt should not be shorter than five centimeters above the knee and open-toe shoes are not permitted. His short skirts and pee toe shoes only get an outing in his spare time. By the way, his wife is a fan of his style and regularly puts his outfits together.

I don’t know about you, but this makes me so happy. This man not only wears clothes that make him happy but also knows how to adapt when necessary and has an environment that supports him. I think it is a very nice balance between authenticity and professionalism. And let’s be honest, he looks fantastic too!
