Workwear ordering made easy: the rise of the Ecmanage app

Ordering workwear these days happens through an app, I’ve even seen it at home. My husband sells it, wears it, and I write about it. So when he says he needs new shirts or trousers again, of course I want to take a look. I’m always curious about the selection his employer offers. But the way he places those orders has changed over the years. What used to be arranged verbally is now all done via an app.

When I casually mentioned the name Ecmanage at home, he looked at me in surprise. “That’s the app I always use to order my workwear,” he said. Strange, because I’d never noticed. And a few years ago, I even interviewed Ron Wessels from Ecmanage for an article. But it turns out the company has since optimized and updated their system quite a bit.

Workwear ordering made easy through the app

When I spoke to Ron in 2020, we were still talking about an online ordering system. But now there’s an app as well. My husband immediately recognized the name because the app is called Ecmanage. However, the company name doesn’t appear prominently when you open it. That’s because Ecmanage allows clients to brand the system entirely with their own company identity. As a result, the focus shifts to the company using the software, not the software itself. That’s also why I hadn’t realized he was using the Ecmanage app.

You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store, and its layout is very user-friendly. My husband uses it to order his workwear, check what he previously ordered, and see when he returned items, the system automatically logs everything. The point system makes ordering easy and structured.

He receives 300 points per year, and each garment or accessory like a belt, for example, costs a certain number of points. He logs in using FaceID or TouchID, so he doesn’t need to remember any passwords.

Workwear ordering made easy: HR integration through the Ecmanage app

It all looks simple on the surface. But like many modern software solutions, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes at Ecmanage. For instance, they’ve recently implemented SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management), allowing user data to be synchronized between different systems.

This means that when someone joins or leaves a company, the Ecmanage ordering system updates accordingly. If someone leaves, they immediately lose access to ordering new workwear. This feature is especially useful nowadays, considering the growing secondhand market for workwear.

Another major advantage is that companies can automatically adjust the available clothing options when an employee switches roles. For example, if someone starts as an operator behind a machine and then becomes a mechanic, they’ll naturally need different clothing. Thanks to SCIM, companies no longer have to worry about managing this manually, it all happens automatically.

Ecmanage’s international expansion

And it’s not just Dutch companies using the app to order workwear, Ecmanage is now active in 34 countries. More than 700,000 people use the clothing management system, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary.

And let’s be honest: that’s not surprising. Many companies don’t just connect directly to Ecmanage—they also do so through their workwear suppliers. Companies like Schijvens, Bright Workwear, and Wiltec actively use Ecmanage. In turn, they deliver uniforms to supermarkets, the aviation industry, and public transport organizations.

It’s a great example of a smart system and matching app that more and more people are using, often without even realizing it. And that’s perfectly fine. That simplicity is exactly what makes it work so well, and why it has become such a success.

Best,
Aileen
