Hot days can be a real challenge when you’re trying to maintain a professional appearance at work. When temperatures rise, I love wearing jumpsuits. They’re easy to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. In this article, I’m sharing 5 tips on how to wear a summer jumpsuit in a professional way.

Tips for wearing a summer jumpsuit to work

1. Fabric and fit matter

First and foremost, it’s important to wear a jumpsuit that feels comfortable both in terms of fabric and fit. On hot days, you’re likely to sweat more, which means it can easily show on your clothes. Solid-colored cotton jumpsuits, for example, might not be the best idea—sweat stains are more visible on them. Still love cotton? Go for a printed jumpsuit instead. With larger, colorful prints, those underarm spots will be much less noticeable.

When it comes to fit, make sure it’s not too tight. You’ll be wearing it all day, and you’ll need to get in and out of it easily, especially when using the bathroom. Choose a style that fits nicely but still has enough stretch, so it doesn’t pinch or take forever to take off.

2. Jewelry changes everything

Jewelry can completely change the look of your jumpsuit. Add a pearl necklace, like the one shown in the video below, and instantly elevate your outfit to something more chic. Want a more playful vibe? Go for colorful beaded jewelry or charms. Prefer to keep things neutral? Then choose subtle gold or silver pieces—think small hoops or a delicate bracelet.

3. Polished and professional

Have an important day and want to look extra put-together? Try putting your hair up with a clip or bobby pins. Not only does it stay neat all day, but it also frees up your neck, making everything feel lighter and cooler.

Not a fan of updos but still want to look well-groomed? Then make sure your hair is in good condition. If it’s dry, a bit of oil on the ends can add shine. You can also do a half-up look by pinning up just the top section of your hair.

4. Choosing the right shoes

Shoes can make or break the look. Jumpsuits actually give you a lot of flexibility. Aside from boots, pretty much anything goes—sneakers for a more casual vibe, heels for a feminine touch. My personal favorite? Loafers. They’re closed at the bottom for a polished look, but the exposed ankle keeps it light and airy. And if you’re a fan of ankle bracelets, this is the perfect time to wear one. Bonus: loafers are flat, which makes them super comfortable when you’re on your feet all day.

5. Grooming is everything

Lastly, personal grooming is key. If you’re unsure whether your jumpsuit might come off a little too casual for work, good grooming will instantly elevate your overall appearance. That doesn’t mean you always have to wear makeup—but if you do, check during the day to make sure your eyeliner or mascara hasn’t smudged from the heat. It’s often the little things that make a difference: blow-drying your hair the night before, or using a leave-in cream in the morning can already take your look up a notch.

Have you ever worn a jumpsuit to work? How do you like to style it?
