Have you ever noticed that pilots around the world wear the same uniform? Even when flight attendants receive a new, colorful, and unique clothing set, little to nothing changes about the pilots’ suits. There are reasons for this.

This is why pilots always wear the same uniform
When someone says they are a pilot, it often commands respect. Everyone knows that being a pilot is not an easy job. You not only have to undergo long and expensive training, but you also need to be in top physical condition. Moreover, you carry a great responsibility: every working day, you are responsible for the lives of the people on the plane.
The uniform is therefore more than just a set of clothes. It is a way to show respect for the profession. Additionally, a pilot, besides wearing a pin with wings, often has stripes on the uniform indicating their rank. The more stripes a pilot has on their shoulders or sleeves, the more responsibility they carry. Since the suit and stripes hold the same meaning worldwide, the uniform essentially functions as a way to showcase what you do and how far you are in your career.
What can change
However, some airlines want to leave their own mark on their pilots’ uniforms. These are often subtle details, allowing the suit to match the uniforms of the rest of the cabin crew.

For example, at Brussels Airlines, pilots wear a tie with a print that also appears in the scarves and lining of the garments worn by the stewards and stewardesses. This dotted print symbolizes the Atomium, a famous monument in Brussels.

At KLM, pilots wear ties that match the cabin crew uniforms. In this case, it is not a print, but the characteristic blue color that aligns.

Similarly, the pilots of Greek Aegean Airlines wear the standard uniform, but women receive a subtle scarf with a print and men a tie.

Bonza Aviation’s uniforms are known for their casual look, and this extends to the pilots. Although the Australian airline sticks to the traditional suit, no ties or scarves are worn. The shirts are made of thin fabric, and white sneakers are worn under the cropped trousers, deviating from the typical formal leather shoes that are usually part of the uniform.
I always enjoy it when a pilot’s suit matches the rest of the crew. After all, you are a team, and it’s nice if that is reflected in your appearance.
Greetings,
Aileen
