A new year also means new fashion trends. But not every trend is suitable for a day at the office. In this article, I’ll show you which trends you can wear to work, give tips on how to adapt them to your personal style, and what to look for when shopping on webshops that sell these trendy clothes.
The classic plaid
Plaid, or wool fabrics with a checkered pattern, are making a comeback. And that’s great because you can wear them in many different ways without losing your professional appearance. Plaid is classic, so it’s a trend you can’t go wrong with. For a formal look, you can opt for a complete suit with a nice Austrian checkered pattern. The advantage of a suit is that you can wear it together when you want to look neat, but the jacket can also be paired with jeans on Casual Friday.

Most people will probably opt for a plaid blouse or shirt. You can wear it neatly with a blazer, chinos, and dress shoes. And for those who have a very casual dress code at the office, it can even be worn open with a plain shirt underneath. This way, you can also give it a more alternative look. A plaid blouse is also commonly worn in the punk and rock scene. If you suddenly need to look formal, just button it up and tuck it into your trousers.
Retro powerdressing from the 80s
Anyone wearing a classic, tailored suit these days is likely to be overdressed. Formal dress codes are really a thing of the past. But, as is often the case with fashion, this item is making a comeback. However, suits in 2025 aren’t as tight as before. The oversized fit and shoulder pads from the 80s are making a big return.

Combine the suit with sneakers and a T-shirt for a laid-back, casual look, or with a blouse and dress shoes for a more sophisticated style. Are you totally into the retro look? Then pair the oversized blazer with a classic, high-waisted trouser and a plain white blouse. And if the fabric gets a bit too much in the way, you can always wear a waist belt over the blazer to add your own twist.
Romantic and Victorian
The trend for a romantic and Victorian style is characterized by lace, ruffles, pearls, embroidery, and soft colors. Think of powdery pink, which is also one of the key fashion colors for 2025.

This style is perfect for ladies who love to dress femininely or for men who like to experiment with their wardrobe. You can wear it subtly, for example with a lace blouse under a blazer, or make a statement with a soft pink suit. Complete the look with a beautiful pearl necklace or pearl earrings for an extra classic touch.
These 2025 fashion trends are ideal for the office – And what to keep in mind
If you want to dive into this clothing style, you’ll quickly end up browsing fashion webshops. I have two tips for your shopping adventure.
- Keep in mind that these trends will be depicted in different ways. Not every webshop has the same target audience. For example, companies targeting a younger audience might combine oversized suits with cropped tops, while those targeting an older, working crowd will more likely pair the suits with turtlenecks or dress shirts. The combination in the photos says more about the company’s marketing strategy than the trend itself. Online marketing for fashion webshops is, of course, important to attract the intended audience. The same goes for makeup trends. Cosmetic online marketing isn’t just about selling products but also about appealing to the target audience they have in mind. Trends are simply a way to tap into that, encouraging consumers to consider making a purchase. And the right target group will continue to make purchases.
- Do you like following trends but also care about sustainability? Then I advise you to think carefully about how you can combine each item before making a purchase. Don’t just consider the items you can buy to go with it, but also take a look at your own wardrobe. Colors that strongly deviate from what you normally wear might seem fun in your head, but it’s a shame when you end up not wearing it. Therefore, try to mentally make at least five combinations before buying anything. And immediately consider whether these outfits are suitable for work or only for private occasions.
And above all, don’t forget to get creative! Trends are not meant to tell you what to wear but to inspire you. That’s what makes them so fun!
Best wishes,
Aileen
