The era in which stewardesses had to work in high heels is truly behind us in 2025. Increasingly, airlines are replacing formal and often uncomfortable footwear with more practical options. Bangkok Airways has followed this trend by adding Puma sneakers to its uniform, yet their shoe policy goes a step further than that of other airlines.

Puma sneakers now part of Bangkok Airways uniform
Under the name “BE THE FIRST MOVE FOR BETTER TOGETHER” the airline, in cooperation with sports brand Puma, has launched the new shoes. Although the name of this campaign actually says little, the intention behind the idea is of course good. Because if you want your staff to work comfortably, you must also make sure that they walk comfortably.
And they are not the only ones who have taken this step in the right direction. Last year KLM and Brussels Airlines also announced that they had switched to sneakers, just like their Ukrainian colleagues at Skyup. In 2021 they chose to give their stewardesses, who work in bright orange suits, the rather chunky Nike Air Max 720.

Pilots also wear sneakers under uniform
The sneakers of Bangkok Airways are made of 30% recycled materials and available for all frontline staff. So both the cabin crew and pilots as well as ground staff such as ticket and service employees receive a pair of Pumas from their employer.
The fact that the airline has chosen to include the pilots in this is striking. Pilots are known worldwide for their characteristic suits and formal appearance, which ensures international recognition and respect. Unlike stewardesses, much less is usually experimented with shoes and uniforms. By choosing a sporty, white Puma sneaker, Bangkok Airways shows that it is not afraid to be a frontrunner in their industry.

My opinion about the Bangkok Airways Puma sneakers
Personally, I would have liked a black sneaker better with the pilot suit, but I still see this collaboration as a positive initiative. It’s great that airlines acknowledge how crucial comfort is at work and that footwear forms such an essential foundation.
