Biker boots are no longer just for riding motorcycles. You’re starting to see them pop up more and more at work too. But how do you make sure they stay neat enough for, say, a day at the office? In this article, I’ll share three tips.

Dress shoes vs. casual shoes
Because of their look and comfort, you might be tempted to wear your biker boots all the time. After all, they’re sturdy enough for a walk, but also stylish when paired with checkered pants at work. Still, I recommend making a choice when it comes to this type of footwear. Use them either for work and “clean” occasions, like a Sunday lunch, or for activities where they might get dirty, like DIY projects or a long walk in the woods. If you constantly have to clean them after working or hiking, it will take a lot of time and effort.
Do you love biker boots so much that you want to wear them for both? Then I suggest buying two pairs. This way, you can keep them separate and not worry if one pair gets wet and muddy on a walk—you can just let them dry for a few days.
Refresh or replace your laces
Even if you only wear your boots for neat occasions, they will eventually start looking worn. That’s why it’s important to check them every now and then. Are your laces looking a bit dull? Take them out and wash them in the washing machine on a 30-degree wool cycle. Don’t forget to put them in a laundry bag. Still looking faded after washing? Then you have two options. You can dye them in the washing machine, but I recommend doing this along with a piece of clothing. For example, you could wash your black laces with a black pair of pants. Laces are too small to justify an entire dye wash—it would be a waste of dye and money.
Don’t have an extra piece of clothing or don’t feel like dealing with dye? Then simply buy a new pair of laces. This is also a great time to think about what looks best. Maybe you prefer flat laces over round ones, or you want to try a slightly different color. Tip: Check which colors you wear most often at work so you can match your laces accordingly.
Caring for leather biker boots
These tough boots are usually made of leather, making them super comfortable to wear. But that also means they require proper care if you want to enjoy them for a long time. Make sure to treat them with a leather care product every now and then. Want your boots to look as neat as possible? Choose a conditioning cream in the same color as your shoes. This will not only keep the leather supple but also refresh the color. Prefer a more “worn-in” look? Then go for a transparent conditioner.
I can imagine that shoe maintenance is something you might easily forget. In the daily hustle and bustle, it’s often not a priority. That’s why I always treat all my leather shoes in the summer. Since it’s warmer, you’re not wearing them as much anyway, and you probably have a few days off. This is the perfect time to give them some care. That way, you can be sure they’re ready to go when autumn starts.
How do you keep your biker boots looking neat?
