The 145-member team is replacing the iconic Emirates uniform the company has been known for over the years. And that’s no surprise, as this uniform has been worn by both cabin crew and ground staff since 2008.

However, the airline felt it was time to give the VIP & Premium services team a refreshed look. According to the press release, this is a highly sought-after team available only to special guests such as presidents, royal families, and public figures. The team is responsible for welcoming and assisting these distinguished passengers when they arrive or make a brief stop at Dubai airport.

The new attire is distinctive yet clearly inspired by the classic sand-colored uniform. This time, the fabric is slightly darker, and the details are different. For instance, the women now wear a red belt at the waist instead of pockets. Additionally, the blazer features rolled-up sleeves and a high neckline. The men wear a suit in the same color, but their tie has been updated. Instead of a diagonal striped pattern in various colors, they now wear a solid dusty pink tie.

Not everyone is happy with the new uniform

The new uniform has faced significant criticism on social media. Many people, including employees themselves, feel that the uniform is a step backward. It’s being called old-fashioned and dull. I’m not surprised by the amount of criticism. This often happens with uniforms that have been in use for a long time. The clothing becomes an extension of a company, and change quickly leads to friction. However, the uniform has already been tested for months, and I don’t expect Emirates to make any adjustments now.

Personally, I think the color of the new uniforms is not an improvement. However, the red belt at the waist and the pink tie are, in my opinion, a step forward.

What do you think of the new uniforms?

Greetings,

Aileen
