We are all familiar with the camouflage pattern that soldiers wear. We see the spotty pattern in shades of green and brown all over the world. But Defense in the Netherlands is going to change that. The old uniform, which has been worn since the eighties, will be replaced. Under the name of project STRONG (Soldier Transformation On Going), they have developed a new clothing package, including a modified camouflage pattern.

New camouflage pattern took ten years

Currently, five patterns are in use: woodland, desert, jungle, arctic, and forest. Each pattern is for a specific area and is the same for military personnel in other countries. They wanted to change that. Defense in collaboration with TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research) has developed a special pattern which is called Netherlands Fractal Pattern(NFP).

It has taken almost ten years to develop. The new pattern consists of a combination of small and large geometric shapes. The different shapes together create a structure that is repeated over and over. You can also see this in nature, according to the makers of the pattern. This would make the camouflage pattern work well both up close and from a distance. Also, it is distinctive and works in different environments.

Because every soldier works in a unique area, they have developed different color combinations:

  • NFP-Green is for wooded and urban areas in Western and Eastern Europe;

  • NFP-Tan is for dry areas, such as desert, steppes, and savannas;

  • Although the Navy crew does not require camouflage, they have also developed a blue version. They call this one NFP-Blue;

  • NFP-White is currently under development. This color combination is especially for work in areas with snow.

In the photo below, you can clearly see the difference between the old and the new pattern. The man is wearing a jacket with the classic camouflage pattern with a helmet showing the NFP pattern.

Soon, 45,000 soldiers will receive the new clothing package. This new equipment also includes helmets, shoes, and belts. The project is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2022. Naturally, Prettybusiness will keep you informed.

Greetings,

  1. I’m thinking about the aftermarket clothing that will be able to cash in on this new pattern.
