Overalls have traditionally been designed for the male body. Alicia Woods quickly discovered this when she started working in the mining industry. After some time, she grew tired of the poor fit and decided to create something herself. Now, her company, Covergalls, offers a variety of workwear, including an overall that allows women to easily use the restroom.
An overall with a flap
When I first read about this unique overall, I raised my eyebrows a bit. How can you make it easy for women in an overall to use the restroom? You can see the solution in the photo below.
An overall that allows women to easily go to the toilet
It might look a bit unusual, but Woods knows from personal experience how challenging it is to go to the restroom in an overall. When she started working in the mining industry in 2000, she was given an overall designed for men. While men could usually relieve themselves by simply unzipping the front, she had to almost completely remove hers. This led her to stop drinking water before work to minimize her need for restroom breaks. Besides the inconvenience, she was also frustrated with the poor fit. The overalls were often too baggy and too long.
From this experience, she launched Covergalls in 2014, a company focused on women’s workwear. Based in Canada, the company now offers much more than just overalls. You can also find work pants, shirts, sweaters, jackets, gloves, and even workwear for children.
The future of women’s overalls
I’m increasingly seeing women who are dissatisfied with their workwear and decide to create their own line. It’s fantastic that women are taking this initiative, but it also highlights the significant lack of women’s workwear. I often hear workwear companies say that so few women purchase their products that it’s barely profitable. Yet, more and more women are starting companies specifically focused on this market. It seems to have become a specialty, a craft to create quality women’s workwear.
Whatever it is, it’s a positive development. And if you’re interested in a women’s overall from Covergalls, they ship worldwide. For a small shipping fee of around ten euros and a month’s wait, you can have workwear with a flap. How original is that?
Best regards,
Aileen
