Emirates is one of the most luxurious airlines in the world. Not only does everything on board look chic, but the flight attendants are also impeccably dressed. This is no coincidence, as everything is well thought out. Even when they sleep, they must wear company-provided pajamas. And on board, flight attendants must always have an oven mitt with them.
Curious about what this looks like? In this article, I’ll tell you 7 things you didn’t know about the Emirates uniform.
1. Beige is a deliberate color
The uniform is primarily beige. The company chose this color because the landscape of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) largely consists of sand.
2. Double protection against the cold
The women wear a suit on board, but when they arrive in another country, it can suddenly be very cold. That’s why they have a long coat, and if the temperature is very low, they can wear a body warmer underneath.
3. Scarf with 7 folds
One of the most striking parts of the uniform is the light scarf attached to the hat. This scarf has seven folds, representing the number of Emirates in the UAE: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qaywayn, Ras al-Khaimah, and Fujairah.
4. Makeup stains
Because the scarf is worn close to the face, makeup stains appear quickly. Fortunately, the fabric is attached to the hat with Velcro. This allows the flight attendants to easily remove the scarf and have it cleaned. They don’t clean it themselves; Emirates covers the cost. They must hand in the scarf in a plastic bag, and then it is steamed.
5. Water-resistant clothing
While serving food and drinks, accidents happen. Fortunately, the uniform’s fabric is water-resistant. All moisture slides right off.
6. Pajamas from the boss
In addition to the standard uniform, the flight attendants also receive pajamas from the company. During long flights, they sometimes sleep on board, and Emirates wants them to always be recognizable. If an emergency occurs and they don’t have time to change, they are still recognizable. This has been well thought out!
7. Oven mitts are mandatory
So, what about those oven mitts? They must always have them because they are needed in the kitchen. Fortunately, they don’t have to bring their own from home; the company provides them with a set.
