4 ways to use cotton bags for your work shoes

Nowadays, more and more companies are using cotton bags as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags. But did you know that you need to use such a bag at least 75 times before it actually becomes more sustainable than the alternatives? After all, producing cotton also requires a lot of water. So, it’s time to use them more often. To help you get started, I’ll share four ways to use cotton bags for your work shoes.

4 ways to use cotton bags for your work shoes

1. Cotton Bags for Travel

These bags are often used for groceries, but did you know they’re also handy for travel? If you need to take your work shoes with you, it’s not ideal to toss them in with your lunchbox, work clothes, or other items. Whether you work in construction or hospitality, shoes tend to get dirty quickly.

That’s why it’s a good idea to put them in a cotton bag before placing them in your work bag. The advantage of cotton is that it absorbs moisture and can be washed in hot water. So, if your shoes are still a bit wet, the fabric will absorb the moisture. Once the bag gets dirty, simply wash it in the washing machine and reuse it.

2. As a cleaning cloth

Do you work in a dirty environment where your shoes often get covered in mud or substances like paint? Then you can repurpose your old cotton bag as a cleaning cloth. Cut off the handles and divide the bag into four pieces. This way, you’ll have four handy cleaning cloths in one go. Use them to wipe the worst dirt off your shoes before storing them. This will keep your shoes looking good longer and help them dry faster.

3. As a drying mat

Still have a pile of unused cotton bags lying around? You can use one as a drying mat for your shoes. Especially when working in messy environments, it’s not ideal to place your shoes directly on the doormat. That would make the doormat dirty too, and you don’t want that. Cut off the handles of the bag and lay the fabric near the door.

Tip: Be careful not to place your shoes too close to a heat source like a radiator, as this can cause the leather to dry out.

4. Against perspiration

You’ve probably heard that some people put newspapers inside their shoes to help them dry faster from the inside. Don’t have any newspapers at home or worried about ink transferring onto your shoes? A cotton bag makes an excellent alternative. Just like newspaper, the fabric absorbs moisture well.
